Facts brokers represent a huge but secretive industry of companies buying, aggregating, promoting, licensing and in any other case sharing buyer knowledge. They might accumulate details immediately on people and then make profiles on these persons, which they promote to 3rd get-togethers. Or they may get information from hundreds or even thousands of other firms, and then bundle it all together in searchable databases. They may well even operate “white pages” or “people-search” internet websites, in which companies crawl governing administration records and other public files, and combination them for public searching.
